Mixed Media Works on Board and Canvas
Since moving to the Far South Coast of NSW in 2003 I have been working on board and using a variety of mixed media including metal, found objects, patina mediums and acrylic paint. Initially my practice was limited to working in the house whilst my studio was being built and this forced me to reduce the scale of works.
With the studio completed the new works took on a much larger scale but this came with restrictions in weight and the use of hardware for the desired effect. The smaller scale works meant I could use nails and metal on wood or marine ply whilst using an orbital sander to get the desired patina effect. Since 2006 the larger mixed media works on canvas have a more painterly response to the landscape.
For the past two years I decided to take time out with residencies in Broken Hill and Berlin. The site specific work that is now in production still responds to the landscape but now has an emphasis on time and place. They also have a strong relation to the video experimentation and play off each other.
Exhibitions above include works from ’Plimsoll Line’, ‘North of Eden’, ‘Weathering the Storm’. ‘Painters of the Coast’, ‘Black + White’, ‘Vantage Points’ and ‘The Twofold Bay Series’.
